Job Summary
The Purchasing Strategist is a key strategic role responsible for planning and executing all material procurement activities. Reporting directly to the Procurement & Logistics Manager, this role ensures the continuous, cost-effective, and timely supply of raw materials and child parts needed for molding, mold manufacturing, and assembly operations. The strategist must maintain a high level of agility to manage material requirements against fluctuating demand forecasts and spike orders, while simultaneously optimizing freight and material costs. This is a salaried full-time contract-to-potential-hire position, requiring on-site work at our Bengaluru location.
Roles & Responsibilities
Strategic Material Planning: Develop and execute comprehensive material requirement plans based on demand and sales forecasts to ensure optimal inventory levels without risking production stoppages.
Agile Procurement: Implement strategies to ensure immediate material readiness to support spike orders and sudden, significant increases in demand.
Logistics Management: Work closely with third-party logistics providers and freight forwarders to schedule timely and cost-effective shipment pick-ups and deliveries, focusing on continuous cost reduction.
Part Costing & Analysis: Conduct detailed cost analysis for critical materials, specifically, Copper, Silver, and other key components, to accurately update and maintain the Bill of Materials (BOM).
Sales Order Approval: Review and approve incoming Sales Orders (SO) from customers, verifying material availability and ensuring alignment with current pricing and material costs.
Purchase Order (PO) Management: Approve and issue Purchase Orders for raw materials and child parts, ensuring timely placement to feed molding, mold manufacturing, and assembly operations without any delay.
Supplier Relationship Management: Maintain strong relationships with suppliers and vendors, negotiating contracts and terms to secure the best cost, quality, and delivery performance.
• • Risk Mitigation: Identify potential supply chain risks (e.g., lead time extensions, price volatility) and develop contingency plans to ensure an uninterrupted supply.
Requirements
Bachelors/Diploma degree in Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Business, or equivalent.
Proven prior experience in strategic purchasing, procurement, or materials planning within a manufacturing environment.
Demonstrated ability to perform material planning based on sales forecasts and manage supply chain agility for sudden demand spikes.
Strong analytical skills with experience in part costing and Bill of Materials (BOM) maintenance.
In-depth knowledge of logistics, working with freight forwarders, and managing inbound shipping costs.
Excellent negotiation, communication, and vendor management skills.
Proficiency in using ERP/MRP systems for planning, PO issuance, and inventory management.
Ability to work effectively under pressure and make time-critical decisions to avoid production line stoppages.
